NgDiskCat is a well built multifunctional hard disk cataloging utility that helps users keep tarck of their storage media files and to offer simplified organising methods - management of that collection (You can define multiple disk locations & disk types) and powerful search features.

NGDiskcat has two different interfaces, one for beginners and one for more advanced users, with explorer like features, embeded zip file indexing & browsing support. NGDiskcat also reads and indexes MP3 Tags from MP3 files and Zip File Comments form zip files, and has template driven HTML Report generator(You can view-save or print them).

You can add comments to any file , save search results, add many usefull data to catalogued disks, Including Disk Covers with TWAIN scanner support and built in cover editor - viewer.

NGDiskcat 1.0.6 Features:

· NgDiskCat Is multi functional program.
· It supports all types of storage media , removable or not, that are supported by Windows® (which are viewed through assigned drive letters or folders)

· There is endogenous support for cataloging files in zip archives without decompressing them and can export comments from the zip file (if these exist).
· MP3 Tags ver1 and 2 for automatic export of information from the mp3 files are supported.
· There two interfaces one for the beginner and one for the advanced User.
· There are 3 different search modes with 3 different forms of result presentation.
· Search results can be saved ,maintaining the hierarchy independently from changes in the main database with ability to do selective search.
· It has support for many descriptional meta data for the cataloged media such as cover picture ,date , price ,name ,serial no etc....
· You can store one picture per medium cataloged.(Eg the cover of CDs) with support for scanners - cameras etc. that are compatible with TWAIN® protocol.
· There can be multiple user support with personal password protected databases.
· Also it has a Time delayed login dialog to protect your assword to be cracked with "Brute force" trial and error method.

NGDiskcat 1.0.6 Limitations:

· Limitations due to Jet Database Engine
·
· The Microsoft Jet database engine allows a maximum of 2048 bytes (not counting Memo or OLE Object fields) in a record. This for Ngdiskcat Means that the filename including path must never be more than aproximatelly 2000 bytes long for unicode sytems than the half (apr. 1000 bytes) this is specially important for files contained in archives (e.g zip files) becuse then internal path = (archive file path):(relative file path). Don't wory it is quite difficult to find such long file paths.Only in rare ocassions such as files with very large filenames very deep in archived files with very large filenames and deeply located into network drives might be such problems. Unless you have the habbit to "hide" your files inside numerous folders and subfolders this limitation wont bother you. The Microsoft Jet database engine supports files up to a maximum of 1 gigabyte in size, but many users have less ;-( space available on their hard disks. This can be a problem only if you have a really huge collection to catalog. Till now no user has reached this limit. There is a very simple workaround tip:Use Multiple user accounts .Each user has its own database so you can easily overcome this 1G limit.

· PC hardware technology is cosnstandly evolving, all of us know that .(especially when we have to pay for upgrades) .Hard disk sizes have grown 10000 times larger. (from 10 MB to 100 GB). So it was an urging need Ngdiskcat problems related to large (>2.14 GB) media cataloging to be fixed.This was done recently so versions from 0.6.xx. and later support disk sizes larger than 2.14 GB. Win 95 originally did not supported HD larger than 2.14 GB and those functions required to aceess them where introduced only in newer versions.See related subjects for more details.

· Limitations due to VB intrinsic Functions

· A closely related problem is the lack of support for filesizes grater than 2.14 GB in VB.(fellow programmers now that VB doesnt have an integer data type for 64-bit unsigned integer values. ... without serious hacking of course. ) All intrisinc File size related functions have 32 bit integer (Long) return values
· .If someone want's to use API function calls must also write code for 64 bit arithmetic wich is i think for now quite unnessasary .So Ngdiskcat doesn't correctly rhandle filesizes larger than 2.14 GB. This "restriction" probably won't bother you because 'common' programms don't create such big files.Some "known activities " involving this problem are DVD
· ripping, and video editing.This isn't a fatal error ,Files will be added but file size will be listed as 2.14 GB.
