Unison Desktop 1.1 Description:

Unison includes Unison Desktop, a native desktop client. Running on either Windows or Linux, it replaces legacy clients such as Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes. Unison Desktop is easy to use and feels familiar to people who know other clients.

Unison Desktop is an application which has the same functions as a regular e-mail client and many more. Because it is fully-unified and works with Unison Server, a user sees all e-mail, instant messages, phone calls, voicemails, calendars and contacts in a single application.

From the Unison Desktop client, users get always-synchronized access to their e-mail, instant messages, telephone calls, voicemails, calendars, address books and more. They can also control settings such as 'out of office' notifications, telephone call forwarding and free/busy status – so colleagues always know how to reach them

· Unified communications
· Unison Desktop integrates all major communication forms into a single desktop app - letting users work more productively.
· Instant messaging, user presence (free/busy status), telephone, and email are completely integrated with each other and with the address books, so all your contact information is always synchronized and just a single click away.
· Unison keeps a history of all your communication with each contact - emails, copies of chats, and phone call details - and stores it on the server. You can always access your history from anywhere or perform a search to find the info you need, regardless of whether you're looking for calls, instant messages, or emails.
· Users can forward not just e-mail, but also your voicemail, or a recorded call, or contact details, or the text of a chat conversation. All communication history can also be accessed and monitored by an administrator if necessary.
· Based on your unified communication history, Unison ranks your contacts by how often you communicate with them and you can use this ranking system to put your essential contacts at the top of the list in your address books.

· E-mail
· Unison Desktop integrates a Thunderbird-based email client, with an intuitive and familiar native look and feel.
· The email client includes integrated spam filters and privacy protection - including blocked/allowed senders, scam alerts, and blocking of remote images. Users can set up mail rules (filters) to move incoming messages to folders or forward to another address. Many additional organizational features such as sorting, threads, labeling, and categorizing are included. All messages, filters, and rules are stored on the server, so they are available from any location.
· Additional non-Unison email accounts can be added, and Unison can also be used as a reader for RSS feeds and newsgroups.

· Telephone
· Users of Unison Desktop get full access to all their phone records and voicemails, as well as the ability to click on a number and initiate a phone call. With our patent-pending desk phone control, Unison Desktop also links to desktop IP phones and can control them for easy call start/end, transfer, parking and more.
· Phone type can be chosen on an individual basis: integrated IP softphone (using a microphone and headphones), or any IP phone (or analog phone with VoIP adapter) connected to the computer.
· Call Control allows you to make and receive calls from the Unison Desktop (using either a desk phone or softphone), and includes hold, transfer, park, and record functionality. When you click someone's phone number, Unison dials for you automatically (contact info is integrated everywhere in Unison Desktop). Calls are tracked, labeled, and sorted in the Calls panel. Recorded conversations are stored as MP3 sound files along with call history logs on the server, and accessible from the Calls panel in Unison Desktop.
· Voice mail is stored as sound files on the server as well, and can be accessed either from the desk phone or from the Calls panel in Unison Desktop.

· Instant messaging
· Instant messaging is built in to the Unison Desktop client, with Unison Intelligent Presence. Supports communication with ICQ, Google Talk, MSN, Jabber.
· The Unison Messenger contact list (roster) displays real-time presence info for all contacts, even those who are using other messaging services (MSN, ICQ, Google Talk, Jabber). Presence information for Unison users is also integrated with the phone service. It shows the person's current status: online/offline/busy/away/on the phone, and even shows how many minutes the person has been "away" or "on the phone". During a chat, you can see your chat partner's activity while you are waiting for a response (active, composing, paused).
· When a chat is completed, a copy of the conversation is automatically sent to your Chat History mail folder, so you can access it and search it just like email. Chat history is stored on the server (rather than locally) - you can always access chat archives from anywhere.
· The Unison Messenger includes organizational features such as groups and sorting options, as well as security features such as blocking and invisible presence.

· Contacts

· Global and personal address books, client-side mail distribution lists
· Unison Intelligent Ranking to highlight most-contacted people
· Address books are created on three levels: Organization, Department, and Personal. All of these are stored on the server and accessible from anywhere, with different access rights for each level. Users can create email distribution lists and store them in address books. The Contacts panel in Unison Desktop provides two views of address book contacts (card style and table format), and sorting features.
· Contact info from all accessible address books is integrated everywhere in Unison Desktop, and always synchronized with the server. This means when you are reading email or text chatting, you can click to dial the person's phone number, or while you are talking on the phone you can click to send a message. It also means that you only have to add or change contact info in one place to use it everywhere.
· Unison ranks your contacts based on how often you communicate with them (call, chat, or email from Unison). You can sort contacts based on this rating to put your key contacts at the top of your contacts list.

· Microsoft Outlook-compatible calendar built in
· A central calendar server means shared calendars are always accessible for scheduling. Users can add personal appointments or meetings to their calendars, and their time slots are marked "busy" on the shared scheduling calendar. When you set up a meeting, you select those users who should participate, and simultaneously view their free-busy slots on the scheduling calendar so you can choose the time for the meeting. Meeting participants automatically get email invitations and send confirmation (Accept/Decline). Meeting notification messages arrive by email in your Appointments folder, so you don't have to check the calendar.
· The Unison calendar uses the CalDAV, ITIP, and IMIP standard protocols for accessing and exchanging data. This means it is compatible with other standard calendar programs such as Microsoft Outlook, so a meeting invitation that someone sets up in a different program is still displayed in your Unison calendar, and Unison invitations are recognized by other programs as well.

· Message indexing for instant search
· Instant search is available for contact info, for messages within a folder, and for call history records.
· Complex search is available across all message folders. You can use this, for example, to find all messages from a certain person in all folders (including chats) over the last 30 days. Saved Search folders can also be created to save a specific query of all messages and show the current results of this search on opening the virtual folder.
